Ready to get your winter on? This weekend (February 6th & 7th, 2016) Barrie is hosting one of Ontario’s Top 100 Festivals, Barrie Winterfest! For 2 full days, Heritage Park and Downtown Barrie will be full of warmly dressed winter lovers ready to explore the great outdoors. There are activities for all ages ranging from family-friendly wagon rides to a polar bear dip for those with thick skin!
The weather man is predicting a mild weekend, which will make me happy, but sadly though, will limit some of this year’s events. Unfortunately the dog sled rides and snowboarding demos are cancelled due to the weather.
Don’t fret though, there are tons of other unique events for all ages!
Barrie Winterfest Highlights:
- Ice sculptures
- Snow Valley’s mini-tube slide
- BodyZorbs
- Lumberjack shows
- Horse-drawn wagon rides
- Bonfire warming zones
- Helicopter rides
- Midway
- and more….be sure to check out the city’s Winterfest site for an up to date list of activities
If being outside in the cold isn’t for you, you can still enjoy Winterfest! Activities are happening throughout the weekend at the Barrie Public Library, the Holly Community Centre, the Allandale Recreation Centre and more.
Many downtown eateries and cafes (14 if you like specifics) are also participating in Winterfest through the Hot Cocoa Trail. Come test out Ripe Juicery’s Raw Peppermint Hot Cocoa or the Lazy Tulip Café’s Mexican Spicy Mocha. For every hot chocolate purchase, you’ll be entered to win $75 in hot drinks. Who can ever get enough of toasty drinks!?
There are some road closures for the weekend so make sure to plan ahead. The City of Barrie has a Winterfest park n’ ride shuttle running throughout the weekend from the Bayfield Mall to make it easier for the winter warriors!
What Barrie Winterfest activity are you going to try first? We’re really looking forward to the ice sculptures and the hot cocoa!
