When we moved to Barrie, we met some amazing people. Little did we know at the time that they (and their family-friendly pub) would become a staple in our lives! The Local Gastropub, located in the heart of downtown on the corner of Dunlop St W & Maple Ave, is a welcoming spot for a weekend pint or just a chill place to grab lunch during a hectic work week.
Scott and Hollis shared with us what their local business is all about and we wanted to share that with you!
Friday Feature: The Local Gastropub
In 2009 a quaint little pub opened its doors in downtown Barrie and for the very first time offered guests an experience of what Ontario had to offer right on their doorsteps. The Concept was simple, showcasing Ontarios very best craft beers and pairing them with Hollis and Scotts creative pub food! Since the doors opened this little pub has been a favourite spot for Barrie locals and tourists.
Hollis & Scott have incorporated their love and knowledge in the industry into simple pub classics and elevated them to dishes that you would not normally associate with pub food. Some of their experiences and training from Hong Kong to New York, have help produced customer favorites like four hour braised beef tacos, pickled onions & tandoori yogurt. Take these mouth watering dishes and pair them with one of 16 taps of 100% local craft beer that continuously rotate, there is no wonder The Local has a great following. Families are more than welcome, enjoy dining with your kids and playing a game of battleship, Jenga or Yahtzee… Old favourites!
If you crave something a little more fine dining? They have that covered too! Available every six weeks, The Local also hosts monthly Beer Tasting Events paired with diverse food from around the globe. It’s a great social event tasting local craft beer and eating food prepared with the beer’s flavours in mind.
“We wanted to create a place where people could go and truly believe that they are fully supporting local with food, with beer and with staff. That was our vision. When you walk in to our pub; you are walking into our house. First, we welcome you, then we offer you a drink and a meal. The homey feeling comes through everything we do and through the staff who work here.”
Pop in to the Local Gastropub for a bite when you are house hunting (I would recommend the triple smoked bacon mac n’ cheese) and tell Scott and Hollis we said ‘hi’. They can be reached at 705-252-9220 for reservations or to book your one-of-a-kind beer tasting dinner.
